The Kentucky Wildcats defeat the Lousiville Cardinals 78-63

In all around outstanding effort, the Kentucky Wildcats outplayed their in state arch nemesis, Louisville Cardinals.  The game was really tight for the first 5 minutes , as the Wildcats traded baskets with the Cards.  Around the 15 minute mark in the first half, oddly the same time Doron Lamb went to the bench with 2 fouls, the Wildcats turned up their defense.  After all the dust cleared, and holding off a one man run by Knowles for Louisville, the Wildcats ended up the victor.

The Everything Kentucky Player of the Game goes to Josh Harrellson for his awesome performance.  I have never saw Josh have a more complete game, in such a big game, as he had today.  Josh Harrellson ended up with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and a huge 3 in the second half.

I think it is important to note, even though Terrance Jones didn't score like he normally does, Terrance Jones had an outstanding performance as well.  Terrance punished the defense each and every time he drew a double team.  Harrellson was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of more than one of those passes out of the double team.

The Kentucky Wildcats didn't do everything perfect, but they did enough to satisfy me.  If they can continue to grow at the rate in which they are currently, this Kentucky Wildcat team with be a force to reckon with, with or without Enes Kanter.

KFC Yum Center, here we come !

The time is here.  On Friday, the Kentucky Wildcats face their arch rivals, the Louisville Cardinals. This is the classic battle I look forward to every year.  The rivarly intensified when Dr. Evil, aka Rick Pitino, took over as head honcho back in 2001.

For every true blue blooded UK fan, this game is looked upon as the ultimate battle between good and evil.  G.I. Joe vs Cobra . He-Man vs Skeletore . Superman vs. Lex Luther . Hulk Hogan vs. Sting at Starcade.  I could go on and on.

Let's take a look at the stats since Pitino moved back in next door. Kentucky leads the series since 2001, with 5 wins and 4 losses.  A record like that makes this game even more special every year.  Neither team has really dominated over the last decade.

Enter John Calipari, and turn the rivalry up another notch. Now you have 1.) In state rivals 2.)Former coach comes back to coach your most hated rival , and 3.) Your coach is now now lifetime arch nemesis of Rick Pitino. It makes for a really good soap opera, and a even better basketball game.  Go Big Blue

Kentucky Wildcat Dream Team

As Christmas comes to a close, I was sitting back watching the Miami Heat destroy the Los Angeles Lakers on NBC.  For some reason, I started thinking about all the talent that the University of Kentucky has delivered to the NBA.  I pondered for a second, what if I could assemble a UK Dream Team starting lineup.  Who would I pick?  Below I have listed my "Greatest of All-Time" starting lineup.  It consists of 2 guards and 3 forwards.  There were many options to chose from, but I believe I have picked the creme of the crop.  What do you think?  Let me know by leaving a comment below and also giving me your "Dream Team" starting lineup for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Dick Vitale writes a letter to Santa Claus

Courtesy of ESPN.COM , I have uncovered Dick Vitale's Christmas wish list.   Dick Vitale surprised no one, by having a DUKE related wish at the top of the page.  Mr. Vitale's second wish is what caught me by surprise! Here is the excerpt from ESPN.COM :

Vitale's wish list for Santa

"Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down basketball lane!"
Hey baby, I am in the holiday spirit! It is time to ask Santa to give out special gifts for all of those hoops junkies out there …
• Santa, please give Duke's diaper dandy Kyrie Irving a quick and healthy return to the hardwood. We should be able to enjoy his talents on the court! Hopefully he will be back later this season.
• Please give some good news to John Calipari out at Kentucky. Let him have potential hoops star Enes Kanter win his NCAA appeal so he can debut a la Josh Selby. Kanter deserves a chance, baby!
• Santa, please help Kansas State make some free throws! I am sure that coach Frank Martin is not happy to have his team struggling to shoot just over 50 percent from the charity stripe this season. In fact, there have been several games this season in which the Wildcats did not even get to 50 percent!
• Tom Crean has worked so hard at Indiana. Santa, let him have a solid season and let the Hoosiers recruits live up to their hype in the future.
• Santa, please let Harrison Barnes of the Tar Heels have that breakthrough performance. We should see the real Mr. Barnes, the diaper dandy with such great expectations going into the season.
• We need to give Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim some frequent flier miles during November and December. Santa, get a travel agent to book the Orange on a couple of trips instead of staying in the New York-New Jersey area next year.
• Santa, please give South Florida some improved facilities so that the program can compete in the tough Big East.
• St. Nick, we need more coaches like Jay Wright, Bill Self and Tubby Smith -- guys who are the total package with personality, attitude and a winning mentality.
• Please give Bob Knight one more shot, Santa, one last hurrah on the sidelines. He is ready for another challenge and he can teach and motivate young people if given the opportunity.
• I would love to see a healthy Tracy Smith in the NC State lineup. He has been out after arthroscopic knee surgery in November, so Santa, give Sidney Lowe a break and get Smith back soon.
Finally, please give peace, love and happiness to all of the fans out there.
Merry Christmas to all!

No Enes Kanter Decision until after first of year

The NCAA made it official today.  They announced that there will be NO DECISION this year.  The decision won't come until after the holiday's and into the first of 2011.   No Enes for Christmas!

Doron Lamb breaks UK record !

Doron Lamb did something today that no other freshman  in the history of UK has done.  Lamb passed up Jamal Mashburn, becoming the only freshman in history for the Cats to score 32 points.  Plus, he did it coming off the bench!  Doron Lamb also nailed a total of 7 threes.  He is definitively the Everything Kentucky Player of the Game, as the Cats win big over Winthrop 89-52

Free Enes News

If you listen to Coach John Calipari's weekly radio show , then you heard the coach make some strong comments about Enes Kanter.  Coach Cal stated "If they choose to (rule him ineligible), the only choice he’ll have is to sue," Calipari said. "I haven’t talked to him about that, whether he would try to get an injunction and play. I don’t know. It’s unfortunate, but it is where we are, and we’re just waiting to hear."

He goes on to say   "If they choose to (rule him ineligible), the only choice he’ll have is to sue," Calipari said. "I haven’t talked to him about that, whether he would try to get an injunction and play. I don’t know. It’s unfortunate, but it is where we are, and we’re just waiting to hear.

Coach Cal then adds  "Obviously, that’s an option for them," Calipari said of Kanter and his family. "(Of the NCAA ruling) This isn’t fair." Of the legal action he mentioned on his call-in radio show Monday night, the UK coach said, "A lot of things I throw out (as) food for thought. I encourage thinking."

I'm proud that Coach Calipari has came out with these really strong statements against the NCAA.  I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

Free Enes News

There is actually some real Enes Kanter news today.  A NCAA spokesman release the following statement "As of today, the case is still under review.  Both the University of Kentucky and the NCAA are working towards a resolution and are aware of the need to bring this case to a speedy conclusion for the benefit of the student-athlete and the institution.”
Not a huge statement, but it is something!

Is Kentucky ready for a NBA team ?

Could DeMarcus Cousins be coming back home?
Is the Big Blue Nation ready to cheer on a NBA team?  Is the NBA ready to take up roots in Kentucky?  J. Bruce Miller thinks so.  He is an attorney who has been hired by the Louisville city council to entice an NBA owner to make the move to Louisville.  Bruce claims he has a "billionaire" investor ready to sign on the dotted line, bringing the NBA to the Big Blue Nation.

Rumors are flying around the NBA that Sacramento may be the team ready to make a move out of California.  This would bring Kentucky's favorite basketball big man, DeMarcus Cousins back to the Commonwealth. Also, Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets are in the mix of discuss. Last week, the team was taken over by the NBA because of poor financial performance.  Again, this is all rumors at this point.  If Bruce is right however, the NBA may be coming to Kentucky sooner than later.

John Calipari has some interesting comments about the possibility of the NBA moving in next door.  Calipari stated " "This state is driven by the city of Louisville," Calipari said. "It is. Anything that's good for the city of Louisville is good for our state. I believe (the NBA) is good for the city of Louisville, which makes our state even better. That's just my opinion. That's one of four million."

Where has all the Enes Kanter news gone?

Has anyone heard any news about Enes Kanter?  I would almost bet that you haven't.  It's because the NCAA and the University of Kentucky have been completely silent on the subject.  I really have no idea which way the NCAA is leaning.  I don't even have a clue as to guess when the announcement will come.  I think it is really odd, however, that there hasn't been more official statements about the situation.

Have you ever heard the saying, "No news is good news"  ? I believe this applies to Enes Kanter. The longer this goes on, the better I feel we will see Enes in the UK uniform before March Madness.  I said earler, I can't begin to guess when the decision will come.  I do , however, hope a decision is made before the SEC regular season starts. Until I hear something..........remember "FREE ENES"

John Wall suffering from injury

John Wall will miss his 9th NBA game of his short career due to right knee tendinitis. This Kentucky guard, from Raleigh North Carolina is tough as nails, but the Wizard management want to protect their investment.  Wall admitted he was very frustrated because of his injury prone season so far, in a statement which said " This might be the most frustrating part, so far, about me playing basketball - I've never had any injuries,"

Terrence Jones or DeMarcus Cousins

Who is the better basketball player? DeMarcus or Terrence?  If you had to choose, who would you pick? Before you answer that question, let's do a numbers comparison. Granted, Big Cuz obviously had more games on this number, but I still think it's a fair comparison.

Points Per Game

Cousins : 15.1

Jones: 18.9

Winner - Terrence Jones
Rebounds per Game

Cousins: 9.8

Jones : 10.2

Winner - Terrence Jones
Field Goal Percentage

Cousins : 55.8 %

Jones : 44.7 %

Winner : DeMarcus Cousins

Now you know that facts.  You watched Boogie last season, and have watched Terrance for 9 games. If you look at the stats, Terrance Jones has put up much better numbers than DeMarcus.  You can argue that Big Cuz had to share the numbesr with all that talent on last years squad.  What about this year?  Terrance has some quality team mates as well.

I want to know what you think.  On the right of the page, I want you to vote on who you think is better.  Then, I want you to leave a comment below as to why you think your player is the best. It's your pick, DeMarcus Cousin or Terrence Jones?

Brandon Knight named SEC Freshman of the Week

Remembering John Wall

Does anyone remember John Wall? He was that pretty good point guard we had along time ago.  In case you don't follow the NBA, I wanted to give everyone a quick update on how "my" favorite player is doing in his rookie season. First, lets glance at the stats.  John is averaging 16.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game.

On November 10th , Wall became the third youngest player ever to record a triple double.  It came in a win against the Houston rockets.  Only LeBron James and Lamar Odem placed a triple double on their sheets younger than our John Wall.

Against Jodie Meeks and the 76'ers, Wall lead Washington to a win after scoring 25 points in the second half. This performance marks his first really outstanding scoring exhibition, while leading the team to a "W" .

With all the success John Wall is having, you would think that the Wizards would be a lock for the playoffs.  That thought is wrong.  Sadly, the Wizards on second to last place in the Eastern Conference with 6-16 record. Currently , they are on a 4 game losing streak.  The Wizards have their star, now they need to build around him.

DeAndre Daniels may opt to start college in the spring

DeAndre Daniels father just announced that Deandre is leaning toward starting college in the spring semester.  Most likely he would red shirt and forgo that semester, starting as a true freshman next season.  However, if he does pick Kentucky, we could definitely use him this year, with such a short roster! He is listed as the # 3 Small forward in his class.

Mike Hartline Career at UK is over

Joker Phillips announced late last night that Mike Hartline would not play in the Bowl game at Pittsburgh.  This would have been Mike's last game for UK.  Instead of his legacy being all these bowl games, now we will only remember him for this.  Terrible mistake by a kid, that I'm sure he definitely regrets.

A message from 1991

2010

1991

I  got a call today , asking me to relay a message to Tennessee's Scotty Hopson .  It was 1991 and they want their hair cut back !

Kentucky's ability to turn up their defense another notch in the second half is explained !

Above , Sylvester Stallone explains why the Kentucky Wildcats are able to turn up their defense in the second half.  With about 10 minutes to go in the Indiana game, someone in the BBN must have done this for the Cats!

Kentucky outplays Indiana 81-62

Kentucky showed up big time in the second half to take down the Indiana Hoosiers.  Jorts came up big with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  I think it is safe to say that this was a career game for him.  Brandon Knight had another strong performance with 18 Points. DeAndre Liggins also showed some leadership and added 19 points .

It was a struggle for the Cats for almost 30 minutes.  Then , it was like when Sylvestor Stallone turned his cap backwards in "Over the Top, the Cats turned it on.  It was their defense that started in, and their shots that finished it!  If the CATS can figure out how to stay "ON" defensively for 40 minutes, they will be hard to beat!

Kentucky defeats Notre dame 72-58

Terrance Jones led the way for the CATS with 27 points and 17 rebounds.  This was one of the most dominating performances by any Kentucky player that I have seen in recent memory.  He played tough defense, made shots inside, made shots outside, and took his man of the dribble.  He grabbed every board he was around.

Making Enes a Priority Today

I turn on the news, check the blogs , and do my usually scan of Kentucky news.  I'm hoping to find that one analyst who has the inside scoop on Enes Kanter and the NCAA ruling.  I come up with nothing today .  I found one article written by a student at Morehead State University, giving his opinon on Kanter.  What? That's it? Nothing from ABC, NBC, or ESPN?

What I did find plenty of information of,  disturbs me.  I found out everything I didn't need to know about some girl named Amber who beat up her boyfriend and lost(and apparently) got her child back. I mean, come on! Let's get our priorities straight. I want to know about Enes, not Amber! ...............

(P.S.) It must be a slow news day for me to write this!

New information about Enes Kanter NCAA Probe

ESPN is reporting that they have uncovered the new information that UK has in regards to Enes.....
A source with knowledge of Kentucky's plan told ESPN.com the NCAA's decision on Auburn quarterback Cam Newton prompted the new approach. [...] Kentucky then requested an appeal in front of the reinstatement committee that was scheduled for this week. But the Newton decision forced the school to alter its approach. [...]

NBA Cat News

The biggest news of the night is about Daniel Orton.  Daniel was sent down to the D-League last week.  He put up some impressive numbers while there, until he re-injured his knee again.  Orton is expected to have a MRI later this week to see how bad the injury is.  I feel for Daniel and hope he recovers to have a great NBA career!

Lexington, We have a Problem

I really hate that North Carolina beat us today.  Do you want to know what I hate more?  The question has been answered on how well this team can hold up against quality minutes from a big man on the opposing team.  The answer is : Not Very Good. Tyler Zellar successfully caused us to foul out Terrance Jones, , Josh Harrellson , and Brandon Knight.  Yes, it was all because of one moderately good big man .  I worry what's going to happen when we face a really good inside presence.

Terrance Jones was completely out of his game today.  He struggled with foul trouble and poor shooting.  He did show some flashes of greatness when he took his man one on one on a few points during the game.

Brandon Knight executed well in the first half, but made a several mistakes in the second.  Freshmen mistakes.

Eloy Vargas and Josh Harrellson. What more can I say?

To sum it up? We are tremendously outmatched down low.  We have a team full of freshman who still make silly mistakes .  And..............we still almost beat UNC down in Chapel Hill.............

I know we have a lot to work on, however after making a few tweaks and getting a few more good close games under the freshman's belt, we can still be a high caliber team.  If Enes is freed, we become a monster team! ....................Please Free Enes..............

Clark Kellog loves North Carolina

Did anyone else notice the love that Clark Kellogg has for the North Carolina Tar Heels? I was just hoping that those North Carolina guards would give the ball to Zellar so he would shut up about it.  I thought no one would ever top Dick Vitale's love for all things Duke.  Move over Vitale, Clark Kellogg has found a new love, and he doesn't care who knows it!

Breaking News UK has new information in Enes Kanter Saga

Like a Hollywood movie, a new twist to the plot has just happened in the Enes Kanter eligibility saga.  The University of Kentucky has asked the NCAA for more time because UK has new evidence to help support Enes.  In a joint statement from the NCAA and UK, neither party will discuss it further until all evidence is reviewed.
What does this mean?

This actually means that the whole process is starting over.  The appeal did happen, but was not ruled upon.  No one knows what the new information is that UK has uncovered.  Some are speculating that UK is now basing their arguments on the Cam Newton decision.  Either way, I feel that is\f this goes on for more than I week, it is going to look real good that Enes will be a Wildcat this season!

In the meantime, I'm going to start writing the made for tv movie script " Free Enes" ..............

No Enes Decision Today

According to CBS reporter, Greg Doyle, there will be no Enes Kanter announcement from the NCAA today.  Greg cites that he has talked to sources close to the situation.

Is this news good or bad?  On one hand, I assume it means that the appeal committee is taking a little longer than normal to come up with a decision.  This would mean that there is a chance that they are actually considering to clear him to play. On the other hand, it's the NCAA and they could be taking a 3 day weekend for all I know.  Stay tuned !!!!

The Tar Heels are next up !

Kentucky will play rival North Carolina down in Chapel Hill tomorrow.  Tip off is expected to take place around 12:30.  This is going to be a real test for the Wildcats.  The question of whether or not the Cats can compete with teams that have a solid inside presence could be answered in less than 24 hours. The Tar Heels both start a 7 footer, and a 6' 10" forward.  Our two head center combo of Vargas and Harreslon  will have no easy task to control the area inside the paint for the Wildcats.
I don't want to be overconfident, but......... outside of Harrison Barnes I don't see a huge amount of talent on this Tar Heel team.  Atleast not the kind of talent we are used to seeing in North Carolina.  Harrison Barnes , in that matter, has failed to impress me so far this season.  Terrance Jones has proven to be the better player, in a side by side comparison.
I think we will learn much from this young Kentucky team.  They are going to have to have a will to win, along with discipline enough to work the ball around to get open, then knock down some shots.  They are more than capable of doing that.  On the defensive end, they must work together.  UK has to to a better job of communicating.  It's all about team defense.
I predict that we will come out with a W.  We will emerge from Chapel Hill victorious.  Hopefully, we'll celebrate the win, and Enes's eligibility by Saturday night! Go Big Blue!

Enes Kanter Appeal already heard???

Mike Decourcy and Dick Vitale are both reporting that Enes Kanter's appeal was heard by the NCAA this morning.  A decision could be announced as early as Friday or Monday. Dick Vitale was very strong in his opinion that the NCAA should let Enes Play.  If Enes is declared eligible, this could immediately throw UK into the top 1 or 2 teams in the nation.  This one lone decision weighs very heavily on the outcome of the Wildcats season.  Let's all hope the NCAA does the right thing! Go Big Blue!!!

Cam Newton ruled eligible by NCAA . Why???

Cam Newton , and his father accepted money from a college to lure him into playing.  A sort of "pay and play" at the college level.  His father and other sides both admitted to it.  The NCAA cleared him to play today.  I was already upset over the Kyle Paker decision.  Now, I'm much more upset at this one.  Cam Newton's family intentionally broke the rules to gain wealth.  Enes Kanter accepted money for expenses and pay for school(all which is allowed by NCAA).  Kanter can't play, but Cam Newton can win the Heisman? I think we should be outraged at this!
