Terrence Jones is back. For the first time in along time we saw the real Terrence Jones at Rupp Arena tonight. He could not have picked a more proper time to return to his old self. Today was the SEC opener. South Carolina was hungry for an upset. Kentucky and Terrence Jones had other plans. Kentucky was just too strong took out the Gamecocks 79-64.
Sweet T(as Rex Chapman likes to refer to Terrence Jones on Twitter) played very well today. It was obvious that his pinkie finger has healed and he is back in top shape. I was excited to see him have such an impressive offensive game. The fact that he called for the ball in the block on a couple occasions and then finished strong showed a more focused Jones. If he keeps it up, the sky is the limit for TJ.
Jones was not the only Cat to bounce back to some negative hype. Marquis Teague played a more mature and well rounded game today to start of SEC play. South Carolina played an awkward zone defense that the freshman handled pretty well. Teague finished the game with 17 points. More importantly, Marquis only turned the ball over twice.
The rest of the team played pretty well also, with a few exceptions. Davis did what he does best. He scored, rebounded, and blocked shots. Anthony Davis had a stat line that read : 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was also right on par with his usual performance. He was diving for every loose ball and grabbing extra possessions with hustle offensive rebounds. Darius Miller was the odd man out with a less than stellar performance. He spent most of the game on the bench. While on the court, Miller went 1-6 from the field and ended with only 4 points.
