Anthony Davis or John Wall - A Tough Choice
Just for fun, who would you choose to play for your team? John Wall or Anthony Davis. Davis and Wall are both beloved Kentucky Wildcats and both have an exorbitant amount of talent. John Wall was the #1 pick during his NBA draft and Davis is projected as # 1 in this years draft. So, let us imagine that you have a shot at either player in the pros, but can only pick one. Who do you choose?
John Wall can be credited with helping the Kentucky Wildcats revive back to one of the top schools in college basketball. UK went from the NIT to the Elite 8 with the addition of Wall during John Calipari's first year as UK head coach. Wall is exciting and maybe one of the fastest players to ever wear the blue and white. At the point, Wall lead the dribble drive offense. He scored when the Wildcats desperately needed a bucket. John was a floor leader even though he was just a freshman. One can not forget that he also began a national craze, "The John Wall Dance".
Anthony Davis came into Kentucky this season as heralded as John Wall just two season before. Davis has quickly became a fan favorite because of his unselfishness on offense and total domination on the defensive side of the floor. Davis may be the greatest defender I have ever witnessed in the college game. Just like the John Wall Dance, Davis has nationally gained recognition on sites like twitter with the "Anthony Davis Says Shut Up" tag line.
I could argue numbers, however both played with superstar teammates that watered down their personal statistics. Imagine how many points per game Wall would have scored if he didn't have some of the players around him. The same can be said for Anthony Davis. If you compare leadership ability, I believe that both are equal. Wall , a freshman lead his team. Davis, also a freshman has emerged as the leader for this current Wildcat team. If you look at performance in big game situations, again another tie. Wall showed his ability during the UConn game in Madison Square Garden. He took over the last few minutes of that game to lead the Cats to victory. Davis, likewise, helped Kentucky defeat UNC with a last second defensive block.
With all that said, there is one area that separates the two. As I said earlier, Anthony Davis is one of the , if not the, greatest defensive college players ever. Wall is a good defender as well. Davis is just at a much higher level. I have the belief that defense is the backbone of a great team. For that reason, Davis has to be my pick.
