How quick will the Cats get back up?

After the loss to the Ex-Cons, this Nike commercial echoed through my mind.  The lyrics to the song, "Everybody gets knocked down, how quick are you gonna get up?"  I know it's a big time bummer losing to the sea of orange to the south of us, but all is not lost. The greatest NBA team ever in my mind, the 1996 Chicago Bulls team,  lost 10 games. I know in my heart I wanted a perfect undefeated season.  That didn't happen. What did I want more than an undefeated season? A National Championship..........

Shake up in the top 25 polls

After what was a crazy Saturday in college basketball, there will be a major shake up in the top 25 polls. Both the #1 and the # 2 teams go down on the same day for the first time in three years. With Purdue's top man going down with a torn ACL, and Syracuse crushing Villanova , here's what I think the top 4 will look like on Monday :

#1

# 2

# 3

Everything Kentucky Fan of the Day

Good job David Reed for answering the trivia question correct.  Jamal Mashburn attended Cardinal Hayes High School. David was randomly picked from the 4 correct answers that I received! Honorable mention goes to
Shannon Gibson, Dwayne McQueen, and Doug Hamilton for getting the trivia right!

Ex-Cons Come up with a W against the Wildcats

Kentucky falls 74-65 to the Tennessee Vol's. Was there anything good that will come from this loss?  The Cats played an absolute terrible basketball game, however had a chance to win it still with only 2 minutes left to play. I don't think Kentucky ever got into a good offensive flow. They showed really good composure to settle down and make a run to tie the game with 2 minutes left, only to come up just short.  Take away the 18-0 run in the first half by Tennessee, and we win this game in double digits.  I'm glad the loss came today, and not late in March.

Kentucky Trivia

Welcome to the first ever "Everything Kentucky Trivia Challenge" The question is, "What High School did Jamal Mashburn attend?" If you know the answer send it to cyberbull454@gmail.com, or send me a private message on my facebook page.  If you are one of the five first correct answers received, you could be the next "Everything Kentucky Fan of the Day" !

High ranked recruit Brandon Knight is close to making a college decision

Brandon Knight said in a recent interview he is going to soon decide where he'll end up in college.  He had narrowed to the field down to Kentucky, Miami , Florida, Kansas, and UConn. From other interviews I've seen, I would say it is actually down to Kentucky and Kansas. I'm sure that coach Cal is doing everything he can to get this kid in a Wildcat uniform. Dick Vitale says "He is as close to John Wall as you can get".

Patrick Patterson Everything Kentucky Player of the Game

With 23 points and 8 rebounds, Patrick Patterson is the "Everything Kentucky Player of the Game".  In the last couple of games, Patterson has really elevated his game and is becoming the leader that  this team needs.  Honorable mention goes to Big Cuz and John Wall with 19 and 12 points respectively.

How to keep Downey out of the basket?

What is the key to a victory Thursday night against South Carolina? Stop Devon Downey! In Kentucky's only loss this season, Downey led the Gamecocks over UK with 30 points.  Obviousley, the game plan would be to contain Mr. Fabric Softner, however I think the most important thing for UK will the how they rebound.  South Carolina out rebounded the Cats last game in that huge upset.  So, the keys to the game are 1. Stop Devan Downey 2. Rebound ........Go Big Blue

A Brick House

Oddly enough, in 1977 the Commodores released their well known single "Brick House". Fast forward to 2010 and another set of Commodores built a "Brick House". Vanderbilt was shut down from the three point line against Kentucky. The highly touted shooters from Vanderbilt went just 2-23 from beyond the arc. That's .087 percent from three.

Kentucky outlasts Vandy 58-56

In what was the worst called game I have seen this year, Kentucky outwills Vanderbilt to maybe lock up # 1 in the SEC. For awhile, I thought I was watching WWE Monday Night Raw, as the game was way to physical.  The officials let the wrestling match go on too long.  Bledsoe's foul early in the game could have been called flagrant, and then Olgivy's foul on a driving Wall should have been flagrant as well. Neither was called. Then , at the end of the game, Vanderbilt has the ball with 2.5 seconds left.  All of a sudden, I was 7 years old again, watching Christian Laetner and Duke beat the unforgetables! I'm glad that A.J. Ogilvy is not Christian Laetner.

UK VANDY Halftime Highlights

It's a tight game so far.  In my opinion it's been a really tough defensive struggle on both ends, and it's proven by the low score. UK leads 27-25 . I'm very impressed with UK defense of the Vandy three. Let's hope John Wall starts to feel it in the second half, and UK puts some more points on the board!

John Wall Makes History...........Again!

I came up with another not talked about feat for John Wall.  After the Alabama game, John became the first Wildcat in history to record a double double for points and rebounds and a double double for points and assists in the same season. What is he going to do next?

DeMarcus Cousins New Uniform?

I came across this today from the UK Athletics twitter page! Big Cuz is sporting a pink jersey showing his support for the UK women's team!
Is It Broke Or Is It Not Broke?

As soon as the day started there were rumors of John Wall breaking/fracturing his foot. The rumors are completely false. Wall is good and will be ready to play Saturday vs Vandy. So big blue nation calm down....he's ok!

Mississippi State Athletics Director issues an Apology

Mississippi State athletics director Greg Byrne called Coach Cal on Wednesday to apologize for the post game antics by the MSU fans. Also, in his weekly letter on the MSU website, Byrne wrote "ESPN color analyst Jimmy Dykes said the university received a 'black eye' last night, following our overtime loss to Kentucky. Because of the actions of a few, we embarrassed ourselves on national television and damaged the university's name. ... The post-game events, in which some of our fans threw items on the playing floor, were totally unacceptable."
Former Cat Jodie Meeks Has Been TradedFormer Kentucky Wildcat Jodie Meeks has been traded before NBA's trade deadline. Meeks who was drafted and had been playing for the Milwaukee Bucks was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Meeks is averaging 4.1 points per game and only playing 11 minutes a game. Hopefully this trade works out for Jodie as he will join the 76ers for the 2nd half of the NBA season.

Kentucky vs. Vandy

On Saturday night, Kentucky will meet Vanderbilt for the 176th time. These two teams first met during the 1911-1912 basketball season.  Since then, UK owns the series with a 132-43 advantage.

Let's take a walk down memory lane and check out 1 of the 132 wins.  Let's turn the clock back to 1998 and see Nazr Mohammed leave the Vandy fans in shock!

Double Double Times 3!
Last night history was made. For the first time in thirty three years there were three players who tallied up a double-double. Thirty three years ago, Kyle Macy, Jack Givens, Rick Robey, and Mike Phillips all recorded a double-double on November 26, 1977. History repeated itself as Wall, Cousins, and Patterson all recorded double-doubles. Wall with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Cousins with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Patterson who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Congratulations to these three cats for making history in what has been a great season!

Patrick Patterson Player Profile

After having one of his better games of the season and hitting the jumper to tie the game to go into overtime. Patrick Patterson has truly proven himself over the past three years as one of the greatest cats to step on the floor. For every Coach Calipari show there is a player profile for each player and the video above is the player profile for Patterson.

Mississippi State Fans show some real class

MSU fans showed some real class after the loss to Kentucky.  It all started way before the game when some MSU fans and possible students pranked called Big Cuz with racist and vulgar comments.  Then they showed how classy they really are after the game, throwing bottles and projectiles at the Kentucky players and Coach Cal.  Way to go MSU fans

John Wall 2 assists short of a Triple Double

It shocked me that nothing was mentioned on how close John Wall came to putting up a triple double.  He finished with 18 points , 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 blocks.  That is what I call a full stat sheet.
The Greatest John Wall Dance...Ever???

Wow! Just a couple of hours before game time and I find this. Long time and faithful UK fan Kige Ramsey doing his version of the John Wall dance in the newest Youtube Sports...I mean Youtube Dancing Video. Kige really shows off some moves in this one. It's definitely a must see!!

Quick note, The video only took one take.

Jarvis vs DeMarcus

Tonight will be an interesting match up between Big Cuz and Jarvis Varnado! In his last two meetings with Kentucky, Jarvis has swatted 17 shots and pulled down a whopping 24 boards.  What's the difference in the last two UK Mississippi match ups and this one? DeMarcus Cousins!

Monday, February 15, 2010

Hello.....This is Big Cuz...

In USA Today there was a article about Demarcus Cousins receiving calls from Mississippi State students and fans. According to the article, Cousins had been receiving calls and texts from fans and students, some that were racist and others were fans had called and said, ''Let's make out." Cousins being Cousins took it as a joke. When asked during an interview if he was going to change his number...he smiled and replied, "not until after the game, I want to see what they got to say." Cousins looks to have a better performance in the scoring column with only five points against Tennessee when the Cats take on the bulldogs on ESPN at 9pm.

C.J. Leslie News!

In a recent interview with Dime Magazine C.J. Leslie had some very interesting comments on the University of Kentucky.  Leslie talked about how he loved the atmosphere at Rupp Arena and all the fans.  He went on to say that he was picking UK and "his homeboy John Wall" to win the National Championship this year.  Check out more of the article at Dime Magazine

John Wall Dance Contest-Update

A quick update on the John Wall Dance contest. So far I still have only one entry! So, alot of people have been asking me what does the winner receive? Not only will the winner be named the "Everything Kentucky Greatest Fan", but will also receive a free "Everything Kentucky" t-shirt! So email your videos to cyberbull454@gmail.com
SEC Freshmen Of The Week!
Another SEC freshmen of the week award was given to John Wall after this week. This Makes Wall's fifth SEC freshmen of the week award of the year. During the week, Wall averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in wins over Alabama and No. 12 Tennessee last week. Congratulations to John Wall on his fifth SEC freshmen of the week of the award. Winning his fifth ties for the most for a freshmen to receive the award. Former LSU Tiger Chris Jackson won five during the 88-89 season. Another record to break for Wall? Quiet possibly.

DeAndre Liggins - no 50/50 balls with him

How can you not this guy? My favorite line is " My first option is to dive on the ball and call time out" !

Syracuse goes down! Thank you Rick Pitino

A very questionable intentional foul call has all the Orange fans up in a roar! See it for yourself and see what you think.  What does this mean for the Wildcats? Two things happen, of course this should move us up to # 2 in the AP polls today, and our strength of schedule just improved with Louisville beating a top 5 team. Thanks Rick!

FAN OF THE DAY 02/15/2010

I know it's still a little over an hour until it's officially Monday, but I'm going to go ahead and announce Monday's Fan of the Day anyway.  Good job Mark Cornette for this photo op with Big Cuz ! Mark you are the Fan of the Day!
Look into the future!
As my first post for Everything Kentucky I thought about what I should post. I figured I would post something..... intriguing. The Year 2011 could turn out to be something special. I'm no way looking past the year of 2010 but everything you read or see 2011 is something to look forward to. By 2011, John Wall, Cousins, Patterson, and maybe Bledsoe will be making their names in the pro's. Coach Calipari will be reloading with what could be a monstrous recruiting class. Every recruiting site you read, whether it be rivals or scouts has Kentucky in talks with not only the number one player in the 2011 class but the number two and number 3. In the words of Coach Cal..."Wow." If you've not read those recruiting sites and don't know who those 1, 2, and 3 players are take a look.

According to rivals.com:

1.Michael Gilchrist,F, 6'6, 190 lbs

2.Marquis Teague,G, 6'2, 170 lbs

3.Quincy Miller, 6'8, 193 lbs

(Listen to the first words he says...Talks highly of Wall and the Dribble Drive Motion Offense.)

All three of these recruits have discussed interest in UK. Gilchrist has been labeled as a Commitment to Calipari and the Cats for quite some time. Teague, a very talented point guard who has been highly sought after by the Louisville Cardinals but has shown interest in the Cats since Calipari's arrival. Quincy Miller, who is friends with John Wall and was recently pictured at a UK game with nothing but UK gear on is very interested in suiting it up for the big blue by 2011. Remember...2011. It Could be a very very special year.

New On Scene Reporter for Everything Kentucky

Player of the Game

The Vols gave the Cats a hard fight, but John Wall shifted into another gear during the second half, pushing the Cats over Tennessee.  22 points, 4 assist and 4 rebounds get John Wall the "Everything Kentucky Player of the Game" award. Eric Bledsoe gets an honorable mention as his two big threes in the second half was zone and momentum busters against Bruce Pearls team.

FAN OF THE DAY 02/13/2010

Joey McQueen is seen here with fan favorite John Wall! Good job Joey on becoming the first "Everything Kentucky Fan of the Day"

#1 and #2 in the NBA Draft???

John Wall and Demarcus Cousins have a chance to make history when draft time arrives this year.  Never has a school churned out the # 1 and # 2 pick in the NBA Draft.  That could change this year. Check out WYMT's article about the history of the draft

C.J. Leslie Highlights

This is one of the top recruits in America. Good news for us is that he says Kentucky is among the top of  prospectus schools.  Even better for us, he is a good friend and played high school basketball with somebody name John Wall!

The John Wall Dance Contest

By now, everybody knows the John Wall dance! What I want to know is, who can do their best John Wall dance impression.  Get out your camcorders, or your cell phones and record a 10 second video of yourself doing the "John Wall" Dance ! All I know is that Slick Rick is thinking about leaving the Cards........ if that means to the NBA or another college team.

So how does NIKE spell KENTUCKY?

Do you follow Coach Cal of twitter? If you do, then you more than likely saw this picture that the team posed for for Slam Magazine.  All is good right? Check out how Nike spells Kentucky on John Wall. OOPS.

1993 Kentucky vs. Tennessee

As we get ready for Saturday's ESPN Game Match-Up against the Vol's, let's turn back the clock to 1993. I hope the score is close to this game's come Saturday.

Big Cuz and Alabama- Is there really bad blood?

Alabama native Demarcus Cousins talks about his relationship with Alabama and coach Anthony Grant. Big Cuz states early in the interview that he was never recruited by Anthony Grant.  Fast Forward in the interview, Big Cuz tells reporters that "it's just a bad situation". I think the bad blood was just the fact that the big man was overlooked by his home state school.
